Cleaning your house (1500 sq ft) in 2 hours

2 hours to clean a house? Sound impossible? It's not! Now, I can already hear your comments that I must not have kids or am full-time homemaker...nope.  I have a 13 year old who can bring destruction to a room in under 5 minutes, 2 dogs who refuse to pick up their toys, plus we have children over all the time for sleepovers. I am a full-time teacher and a caregiver to my elderly parents, so I have plenty to keep me busy! ...

Potiphar's Wife-Gen. chap 39 Devotion

This devotional is based on a negative example we see in the Scriptures.  So many times I learn better by seeing what someone else did wrong, and Potiphar's wife definitely falls into that category!

In chapter 39 we see where Joseph arrives in Egypt and is working for Potiphar. God allows us to see a very interesting event that happened to him while there.  For those that say the Bible is boring, they obviously haven't read it!  This chapter could be something...

Writing Longhand Vs. Computer

I've had several people ask how I write....well, if you know me at all, you'll know that I have to fight sarcasm on that one.  One day I might just go ahead and say, "Oh, with words and sentences."  BUT I usually restrain myself from the sarcastic and try to answer them as honestly as possible.  I find it interesting that so many authors write their rough drafts in so many different ways.  Personally, I hav...

GPS & Alzheimer's

My father gave me a really bad scare last week.  It was Wed. and we had all eaten together as a family.  After eating, I told dad that I was going to get ready for mid-week church services.  He went downstairs to get ready.  Thirty minutes later I'm ready to leave but can't find dad anywhere.  I spent 10 minutes looking all over our property to no avail.  Starting to panic, I call my husband who's in a city council mtg and leave...

Lost 16 lbs in 1 1/2 mnths with HCG

Okay....I heard about the HCG hormone shots from a friend that knew several women that had success with this program.  I told my husband about it and a few days later he came home telling me that his secretary and her best friend had been on it and had lost a bunch.  SO, I decided why not try it?  This is a dr. supervised program.  I went to the first visit not really knowing what to expect, but I did know that it would take up to 2 hrs according to their site.  Well,...

Teaching our children

Posted by Lizzy Armentrout on June 25, 2009 at 10:02 AM Comments comments (4)

Sitting in church last week, the preacher said something that sent my thoughts running.  He was talking about communicating to our children.  That statement triggered a memory from a class I had taken years before.  (Can't recall the class name now.)  In this class, the instructor talked about how we as parents so often put our children in situations where we haven't explained to them our expectations clearly.  Then, when the chi...

Devotional on Rebekah-Genesis chapter 26-27

Posted by Lizzy Armentrout on June 11, 2009 at 12:09 PM Comments comments (10)

Rebekah, Rebekah!  I'm so glad that the Lord included this passage in the Bible because she is definitely very human and an example (howbeit a poor one) of how to mother.  Back in chapter 26 we see her husband, Isaac, telling her to lie about being his wife.  (Hmmm....doing exactly like his father, Abraham, had done just a few chaps back.)  She goes along with his wishes and ends up in a mess with the king.  Then in chapter 27 we see that she sti...

Devotional on Eve-Genesis 3

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

I've been having a desire to do my own study of the women in the Bible, so today in my Bible reading I started at the beginning in Genesis and, of course, Eve.  This verse that I included...

Mother's Day

Posted by Lizzy Armentrout on May 11, 2009 at 7:21 PM Comments comments (76)

This year marked a huge milestone for me; on May 1st it had been 30 years since the Lord took my mother to heaven when I was only 11 years old.  30 years!! I just stand in awe when I think of that!!  When it happened, I didn't think I would make it to my 16th birthday without her, and now it is 30 years later!  Due to her death being so near to Mother's Day, that day is always bittersweet for me.  Sweet because God has blessed my husband and me with a...

Omni Software Works (Tweens & Internet)

We just finished hooking up a computer in our daughter's room that has internet access via our network.  Now, I'll be honest and tell you that this scares me to death.  I'm very aware that there are very real dangers out there for 12 yr olds online.  I tried using the Windows security feature to block sites, but it is very frustrating and constantly requires passwords for sites that I've already clicked "allow."  So I went on-line and did some resear...
